Dave Runs for a Cause

Raising Funds for the Sharing Network Foundation

Hey everyone, I'm Dave Cavanaugh, and I'm excited to share that I'm running 100-mile marathons to raise money for the Sharing Network Foundation and their livesaving mission - I'd love your support!

My journey to this point hasn’t been easy. From ages 13 to 25, I struggled with addiction and unhealthy habits, including smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. But everything started to change the moment I decided to lace up my running shoes. I started with 5Ks, even smoking between races at first, but soon realized I had to choose—run or smoke. I chose running, and that decision changed my life. I’ve since run marathons, ultra-marathons, and faced some of the toughest challenges I’ve ever known. One of the hardest was a 50-mile race in Kentucky in 93-degree heat. I wanted to quit multiple times, but I kept going. That race led me to aim even higher, signing up for a 100-mile race. I didn’t finish the first time, but the failure taught me how to push through mental barriers. On October 8, 2023, I crossed the finish line of my first 100-mile race, finishing in 28 hours and 17 minutes—and earned my first belt buckle! Now, I’m running to raise money for something truly meaningful to me. This year, I'll be running in the Chesterfield Gorge Ultra the end of May and the Wild Goose Trail Festival in late September. For the past 16 years, I’ve worked in the tissue bank industry, and I’m inspired by MTF Biologics' mission of saving lives. The NJ Sharing Network plays a crucial role in saving and enhancing lives through organ and tissue donation and transplantation. It only feels right that I use my running to help fund this amazing cause. I know the physical pain that comes with these ultra-marathons, but it’s nothing compared to the pain people experience waiting for a second chance at life. Your support will help increase the number of lives saved through clinical advancement, family support, public awareness and education about the lifesaving benefits of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Please consider making a contribution to my fundraiser so we can make a real difference together.
Thank you for your generosity.

Over $2,000 raised to date! Thank you for your support.
